ABOUT

THE ARBOUR

Honestly? No idea why I sat down and painted a tree one day. But when I really think about it, it makes perfect since. So, get this. Year after year, TREES continue to grow. Rings form within the trunk grow, some slower than others, but it is a continuous CHANGE. Sounds a little cliche..and it probably is, but either way I try and apply this principle in my life. That is, day after day become a better person--changing, growing, learning,  and never settling or being satisfied with where I'm at because I know there is always more.

As the daughter of an exquisite interior designer and a musical virtuoso I've always been fairly artsy. So, on rainy days in my hometown of Memphis, Tennessee as my mind wandered, my hands got to work.  A few thunderstorms and multiple trips to the craft store later, I had myself a miniature museum of tree paintings in my parents guest bedroom. Oops?

It wasn't until my older sister suggested I sell my paintings that I actually considered they might be decent enough for someone to toss in a few bucks for and buy. Seemed doubtful at the time, but I needed to do find a place for them, so instead of becoming the crazy cat lady of tree paintings, I decided to try a little something.

And so my journey began...

THE BEAUTY

According to Memphis Area Women's Council, "Shelby County has the 6th highest rate of domestic homicide in the country." Though both women and men fall victim to what is now more widely referred to as intimate partner violence, I firmly believe the mental and physical abuse affects men and women very differently. This is where BEAUTY comes into play.

Because You're Worth It...
L'Oréal said it best. I remember the "Because You're Worth It" commercials as a young girl. My mom says I'd always poke my head around the corner of our living room, give my hair a good fluff and a quick shake and proclaim, "I'mmmmmmm worth it." Slightly embarrassing, but darn right! Shouldn't every girl always feel this way? I was lucky to start believing that at a young age, but my heart goes out to the young girls, teens, and women who don't. After suffering the hardships of abuse and/or homelessness, women begin to think they'll never feel that way. Well, that just ain't fair! Because these women are focused on so many other things in life, I want to provide a little happy for them. Face moisturizer, cleansing wash, foundation, mascara with a side of encouragement and a dose of CONFIDENCE can go a long way in helping women feel renewed and prepare for their road to recovery.

In addition to posting my paintings and pictures (photos not for sale) of trees, I try to post frequently about a beauty tip of some sort for all you pretty gals out there. Whether it be tips on make up application or simple DIY beauty ideas, I hope you'll find them helpful and keep sharing Arbour Beauty! Also, because my life is so exciting (insert sarcastic tone here), I will probably also post some boring stuff about random happenings, enjoy!
